"bright" is Me + You Production's first film! Me + You Productions believes in telling honest stories that otherwise go unrepresented. We were missing the awkward, inbetween, gray area land that many young (and not young) people go through in navigating the world of relationships. With that, we felt emboldened to create "bright".
In this coming of age story, we glimpse Summer and Aiden in their senior year of high school figuring out what they want with each other (if they want each other). Inspired by a Ralph Waldo Emerson passage, "bright" wrestles with the idea that many young adult stories are not wrapped in a bow. We get to see a slice of this story, told with unapologetic honesty, playfulness, and enigmatic charm.
We are very excited and proud as "bright" hits the festival circuit!
Director's Note
Hi there, my name is Asha Noel Iyer and I am so excited to share "bright" with you. As writer, director, producer, and starring actor of the film, I have been exceedingly passionate about this film's message, which is to glorify the gray area of relationships. You know, that sticky, uncomfortable, "where exactly do we stand" land that so many people, particularly young people, experience. I think there's something really beautiful in that confounding space between two people, and I don't think that's a space we see validated on screen or in media much, if at all. I know that as a young person (during high school and college in particular), I thought it was so dumb that I always found myself in that weird space with someone. I never saw that kind of thing in the movies and for whatever reason that meant I was doing something wrong. I made this film to validate the gray area of relationships, particularly for young people. It is an extremely normal and beautiful space to be in, and I am so excited to celebrate that space with "bright"!
